Is it true that you can get in trouble if you do any Army PT of any sort before your recovery time is up?

I had a plate put into my foot this past May to fuse 2 bones together. Once out of my cast I was placed on a temp profile for 3 months and from my understanding the recovery time is double, so 6 months. I have already been cleared for running and some of my rigorous activities but would I get in trouble if I wanted to take my PT test while still in recovery phase?

If your unit is using DTMS which they should and your profile was loaded into the system it will not allow you to enter an APFT if you are still in the recovery portion of the profile. If you feel you are ready then just keep improving and wait for the time of the recovery to elapse.
Also you do not have 6 months of recovery. You have double the length of the profile, not to exceed 90 days.

Thank you for clearing that up SFC. They are allowing me to wait until the next PT test to take it. There was no way that I was going to be able to run on it 90 days after the profile ended. Even now, I am still rehabbing it and not running as often as I used to. It's a slow healing process.

SGT Lewis,
You may have to even get a new profile to complete the healing process. Keep in mind though should your profiles equal up to a year of time then you need to be looking at a permanent profile. Hope it all goes well for you.

Roger. Thank you SFC. I don't think that the permanent is needed. I have been able to run at least 3 times a week on it. I was put on a 500lb restriction for lifting so I stay within my limits. So far, so good.

From my experience, your unit is not going to let you take a PT test while you are still on profile or in the recovery period. It's a liability issue. If you are still on recovery and they let you take a PT test and you reinjure yourself, someone's ass is going to be in a sling. Also there is a 90 day cap on the recovery time, regardless of how long you were on profile and you cannot waive your profile in order to take a PT test. You can do PT as long as you have been cleared by your doctor and it is annotated in your records, you just can't do a PT test.

Roger, thank you Sir. This is my first profile so I wasn't really sure how it all works. Makes sense though.

Feel free to take a diagnostic or self test to see where you are at, just don't push yourself to the point of harm.
