Nah. The best thing you could probably invest in is a battle belt. They're amazing and really do wonders for reducing the stress and wear on your shoulders, even with the IOTV.

Anything you buy out of pocket that is not issue- will not be replaced should it get damaged for 1. It better be DA /DOD approved, cause if it fails you- the service does not have to cover your medical bills- so check damn close above all.

Generally speaking you shouldn't be allowed to use personal body armor. I do believe it is in regards to the life insurance.

I was issued a plate carrier during deployment which was a thousand times better than the IOTV.

I'm on loan to another brigade to backfill and we were authorized (if we want) to wear them.

Fair enough. I would absolutely say get a plate carrier then. So much cooler and more freedom of movement for the arms. Only problem is that it puts all the stress on your shoulders whereas the IOTV distributes weight better.
