As a Support Operations Officer it was extremely frustrating to wade through all these oversized boxes of stuff (any soldier mail, not mail for specific people). I was trying to max out distribution assets. I always had more stuff than Trans to move it. Then the Postal Det shows up with a 20 footer that needs to go somewhere that I resupply exclusively by air (sling load, internal, LCLA, or JPADS) because it is built in the crag of a mountain that goats can't get to. As you are in TF No Mercy, you can see that cargo space is tight and there are more AMRs than there are birds.<br /><br />If there is something specific you need and your family isn't helping. So the stuff would pile up at United, Northwest, or whatever. The wives figured it out and started packing a piece of loosely wrapped stinky cheese near the top of the box and had everything else wrapped well in plastic. Amazing how that cured the constipation. I can recall eating out of the dining facility and the food did not taste right. I asked my family to send me some "Tony Chachere" seasoning which I got, and it was great. This was moral boost for me. The rest of my guys started getting care packages from home. This lead to our unit being so close together that getting done with a mission was key. Our down time was shareing items from home that made our tour easy. My advise to you is to build your team up by sharing a care package from home. I wrote to adoptaplatoon, blanketsofbeliefs, Callaway, etc. I did this because I knew some of my Soldiers would probably not receive any packages. So I wrote and received and shared it with my Soldiers. They felt cared for and I think it was a way to bring us closer as a group too as we all shared packages. There were a few who never got a postcard, but as a leader and a fellow Soldier it was my honor to ensure that they were taken care of. We are all battle buddies regardless of rank. I also ensures to write a thank you note to everyone who sent a package to let them know it was received and greatly appreciated. Sometimes we even flew a flag in their honor folded it and mailed it to them with a certificate of authenticity. They loved that.
