Mental illness carries with it such a serious stigma that I have seen it used to keep people from their children, as justification to pass over a vet for promotion, and to slander attempts to obtain political office. Do you believe this is an intentional move to keep the Americans with the greatest leadership potential from obtaining power?

Yes it is and its increasing! That's why a lot of vets don't like to admit they have this problem or even admit they suffer from PTSD because they are afraid of the STIGMA!

That is one reason I went from combat medic to MSW student, to help my fellow brothers and sisters in arms.

SPC Rory J. Mattheisen, I've tried to get addional life insurance for myself with many insurance companies. The only life insurance I have is the 10K policy with the VA. The private companies say no questions asked, but that is BS. As soon as they find out about my PTSD, I'm turned down. They find out when, on the questioner, is your annual income and where you work. I check retired, and income is from the VA and SS disability checks, and immediately I'm turned down. I wish I could take out another policy on myself so when I croak, my wife will be taken care of.

I was awarded SSDI and 100% from the VA and I have the same issues. I was able to get a 30 year term before I retired in 2002 with USAA, so I feel your pain.
