Their are good professional players that give back to their families, neighbor, charities or organizations they started and remain under the radar. There are those that do what is expected by their organization. They make good money from their contracts, endorsements and VIP status. None of which was included in my AF compensation package.

Comparing the NFL to military services like comparing apples and eggs! The only similarity is that we both wear a uniform.

No. NFL players do it for money and fame. Service members do it for God and Contry. OK, some of us liked the rush of some of the situations also.

Not even close! We do not receive millions of dollars for 3hrs of work once a week, we do not receive any credit for being separated from our families, the NFL players receive all types of notable compensation from the public where the military member gets nothing. Not even close!!!

Other than being in Law Enforcement, An EMT or a Firefighter, there is really nothing that compares to the Military.
The NFL is a lucrative, but competetive business, You have to have enormous talent and work your ass off physically to get there. It also tends to be a very short lived career for most. I believe the average career is maybe three years. I would say the Vast majority Of NFL players work very hard to get where they are and end up being good citizens. We always hear about the bad ones. The physically gifted ones who sham their way through High School and College and get away with criminal activity because they can run like a cheetah or are incredibly big and strong often end up at loose ends and fail at life.

Sure, it's similar..........except for the fact that we are not paid NEARLY as much as they are........or the fact that if they get one little sprained pinky finger they are out for a few months where we are told to rub some dirt on it, take a lap and get back to work. Their time away from home is measured in days instead of months or years. But yea, they're similar

PO3 Aaron Hassay One, let one nfl player try to live on the salary of an enlisted person with an equal number of years in service, then this can be a discussion. Two, NFL players have a union that ensures a proper level of pampering and sharing of profits. Service members have not had a real raise, not "cost of living adjustment" but RAISE for how long? Three, if an NFL player's career is ended on the field, they return to their family, and start over. Service Member's who career is ended on the field are very likely receiving a military funeral while the family tries to pick up the pieces. Four, when an NFL player is "deployed" they are flying first class with equipment managers to carry their gear, and staying in luxury hotels. When a service member is deployed, they get MREs and (if they are lucky) porta shitters. That is just beginning to scratch at the surface.

When NFL players have to dodge bullets, sleep in tents for months on end, eat MRE's and be separated from their' families for 6-12 months at a time, fly for 12 hours sitting in jump seats, endure days and weeks of boredom interrupted by hours of fear that makes your asshole pucker, then they can start to understand what we go through for a fraction of what they make

There's nothing wrong comparing civilian employment to the military. Of course they're not the same. All jobs are different from each other. Military service doesn't hold a complete monopoly on things like honor, selfless service, and integrity.

These people play a game that is romanticized by its fans. Go ahead and let them pretend these struggles are glorious and meaningful. Your correcting them won't break the delusion. It's just a game. The people who don't understand that likely don't know what struggle and sacrifice mean.

I can't believe someone would compare the plight of an NFL player to an American soldier. This is disrespectful in so many ways. An NFL player is concerned about getting paid and winning a superbowl period. If they want to be compared to soldiers how about setting up a couple gun nests up in the stands and see who steps up to carry the rock. Let them tote a rifle into a combat zone and stand a post on the frontier of freedom before they even deserve a mention. One is an entertainer, the other a patriot preserving the rights of freedom for their nation. Athletes versus trained combat predators, there is no comparison. Hit the field and squat for the National Anthem while the US Military defends your right to do so! Go make your millions football players but don't demean the existence of those that give you the right to do so by comparing your so called sacrifices to theirs.

I don't feel a comparison of the two can even be made, except that both wear a uniform. I would place military service far higher than an NFL player. NFL players don't risk their lives every day for this country, or leave their families for months at a time to be deployed to a foreign enemy zone where living conditions are less than great, or get shot at or bombed daily. Heck, many NFL players don't even stand in respect of the flag, but take a knee and say it's respectful. That's a bunch of bull. Military service should never be compared to NFL players.....

Sp4 Byron Skinner. No Way. I'm not say that a few of the players in the NFL could do a Combat Arms BCT and then Infantry AIT Thats just the start if you want a career you have to add Ranger School and Special Qualifications Course. Then a couple of Combat Tours in Afghanistan. That is before you even get to throw or catch a football.

Sp4 Byron Skinner. The question is comparing the Army to a game played by millionaires is out of line. The injuries occurred in combat are much more serious there is no possible injury in football that compares to being on a few feet away for an incoming 82mm mortar round or with in a meter of an exploding hand gernade. Event when seat occurs on an NFL playing field it is not the bloody gruesome deaths of friends that a soldier or marine has to put in a body bag. Th post service medical care of Veterans both combat and non combat is a sham. The VA healthcare system long ago, perhaps at the end of General Omar Bradley's term as head of the VA deserted the Veteran and became the world leading trainer of new doctors and healthcare professionals. Veterans are disposable gunny pigs for recent Medical School graduates to learn their craft and the sell the crafted services in a civilian healthcare market that richly rewards them. Few ever go back and do pro-bono care for Veterans. Veterans are OK to do an oops on, but when money is involved, wee you can finish out this post as you like.
