Is mixing parts of the IFPU and civilian attire allowed on post in the gym?

Personally I hate it and don't do it. It looks bad and to me is the same thing as wearing your acu pants as casual wear. But is the mixing of pt uniform with civilians allowed in base gyms? I have only been able to find what looks to be a gray area in the regs.

It’s disappointing how many NCOs incorrectly stated that it is not allowed. It is authorized in AR 670-1 but only the PT uniform can be mixed with civvies.

Opinions are great, but they aren't the regulation. Soldiers ARE authorized to mix IPFU with civilian clothes, as long as they are off-post and if the commander (the reg allows any level of commander) authorizes it. Many CGs' policies don't allow it, and most NCO's and O's are used to the old regs. But leaders shouldn't assume that this will be every unit's policy, and shouldn't go against the actual policy just because their opinion isn't caught up with the reg.

MAJ (Join to see) - Actually, it is allowed by default unless the commander RESTRICTS it. 670-1, 12-3.
There is also the REG and what would be considered Professionalism. Simply because the Regs permit a thing doesn't mean it is advisable. Imagine how a young soldier feels when he sees an NCO or an Officer who makes 2-3 times what he makes and is too cheap to visit Walmart and buy a $15 pair of shorts so as to completely avoid confusion? As a retired NCO, I never wear the uniform out of regs (short beard excepted) not because as a retiree I can't, but because there are still young people wh refer to me as, "Sarge." NCO's and Officers need to know the Regs and then exceed them. Thatls what leading from the front and leading by example mean.

Majority of installations are combating AR670-1s authorization of mixing the APFU with civilians in places like gyms and mess halls through CG policy letters. Lately even going to the extent of not authorizing civilians at all during PT hours.

Thank you 1SG! I see it EVERY time I go to the gym on post I see the mixed uniform. It makes me wonder the same things.
I am also glad to see common sense is at Ft. Campbell. I will be there in a month or so.

No no and no! For years it's been issue CG to CG things change at each post. NCOs must stick together and keep everyone in check "OFFICERS OF MY UNIT WILL NOT HAVE TO ACCOMPLISH MINE". Weird I'm pretty sure a CG is a officer, NCOs need to be making more on the spot corrections it should never be so out of control the CG is forced to write a policy letter on it

The key word here is OFF.
14–4. Occasions for wear
The PFU and the IPFU are authorized for wear on and off duty, on and off the installation, when authorized by the
commander. Soldiers may wear all or part of the PFU or IPFU with civilian attire off the installation, when authorized
by the commander.

I don't think the keyword is off. I think the key point is: " when authorized by the commander". If I stop individuals and they either don't know the policy or their commanders take on it they are automatically wrong. And I think part of the reason that some people enforce it and some don't is just the fact that they dont wont to look silly, if somebody tells them.... but my commander said so and so. Which wouldn't make any sense here on Fort Bliss, because it's unauthorized by Division policy.
