I was active duty for about 8 years and ended up RCPing out of the army. When i was discharge I reenlisted for 6 years into a reserve unit for 6 years because they were offering a 15k Bonus and the health care for my family. I reported to my unit in February of 2018 and was not on the books for several months., until August of 2018. when I initially reported in February I was informed by the retention NCO and my operations NCO that my contract my not be valid and i may have to sign a new contract or get out. I asked for months on the status of my bonus and did not hear anything.

Earlier this year we got a new civilian rep for the commander who is also an NCO in this unit. He stated to me that the old rep and teh current PAC NCO and Operations NCO never inquired about my contract pass asking brigade if my bonus was payable. Brigade advised them that since the UIC changed for an upcoming deployment I would have to submit a memorandum stating why it was not initially sent.

During this years AT I was advised by JAG not to sign anything and attempt to contact IG. I contacted IG who stated the same thing that brigade did. I have asked them to just break the contract. My unit rep who is a friend has also informed that brigade is more then likely not going to pay out the bonus even if i file the proper paperwork.

The reserves have been broken for many, many years. In fact, Colin Powell tried getting rid of the reserves and wanted to incorporate all of the units, gear and personnel from the reserves to the national guard. The Guard gets more money, more resources and is much better organized than the reserves. I would be going to the congressman, I would also seek out the Senior Enlisted Advisor, and the Brigade CSM. The Congressman should be able to help, they do NOT like getting Congressionals, in fact, they sometimes $hit their pants. I've known Congressmen to personally show up to a military base to address an issue, and talk about pissing themselves - Ha Ha Ha. Just make certain you have a copy of the contract to send.
