Is organizing formation runs with cadence calling once a week for vets and non-vets a good idea?

<div class="images-v2-count-0"></div>I had this idea yesterday, I want to put together a Runner's Club that consists of formation runs with cadence calling for veterans. I used to hate group PT but I've come to miss the activity and teambuilding. I thought this would be a great way to network between veterans in the local area and motivate them to stay active during the week. I imagine this to be once a week in the early morning at a local park. Everyone shows up, we stretch out, and run for an hour at the typical formation run pace. Is this a feasible idea? I've done a local survey with my veteran buddies who told me I was nuts and that no one would ever join me in this endeavor. SO, I'm hoping responses here would be more diverse.Tue, 10 Jul 2018 10:57:06 -0400Is organizing formation runs with cadence calling once a week for vets and non-vets a good idea?

<div class="images-v2-count-0"></div>I am sure some might think this is a good idea. For me, I only run when chased so it wouldn't be a good option for me.SGT David T.Tue, 10 Jul 2018 13:04:33 -04002018-07-10T13:04:33-04:00Response by SGT Tony Clifford made Jul 10 at 2018 1:15 PM

<div class="images-v2-count-0"></div>I'm sure that there might be a few people in your area who would be on board with your idea. It might only be a handful of people though. Weekends would probably be your best bet to get people for it as most people need to drive for work in the morning. I need to be on the road at 0630 to get to work on time, so I imagine that others would too. Good luck with your plan.SGT Tony CliffordTue, 10 Jul 2018 13:15:32 -04002018-07-10T13:15:32-04:00Response by LCDR Private RallyPoint Member made Jul 10 at 2018 3:05 PM

<div class="images-v2-count-0"></div>As an avid runner (well, ok...down for a week with a sprain at present), I'd enjoy something like this-maybe without the cadence all the time though. Getting a group of vets together to run might be a good idea; the formation thing might be less popular though...just my $.02<br /><br />Kinda thought about trying to organize something similar in my neck o' the woods...that, or a ruck march.LCDR Private RallyPoint MemberTue, 10 Jul 2018 15:05:39 -04002018-07-10T15:05:39-04:00Response by MAJ Private RallyPoint Member made Jul 10 at 2018 3:58 PM

<div class="images-v2-count-0"></div>I'm an avid runner so I'm not a big fan of group runs since I tend to not get a lot out of them. I'd be more likely to join a group PT session (think boot camp-ish) and then maybe ability group runs. I'm also not a fan of calling cadence. Now if this were a yearly or semiannual run for a good cause, maybe. But not weekly. At least not for me. But don't let me stop you. There may be tons of people out there looking for this exact thing. <br /><br />One other idea: do it in the afternoons and end at a pub/bar. Follow the run with beer and story telling. Then you'd have me interested.MAJ Private RallyPoint MemberTue, 10 Jul 2018 15:58:57 -04002018-07-10T15:58:57-04:00Response by SGT Christopher Hayden made Jul 10 at 2018 4:05 PM

<div class="images-v2-count-0"></div>On the list of "things I'd rather never do again" running in formation with a cadence is pretty high up there...SGT Christopher HaydenTue, 10 Jul 2018 16:05:56 -04002018-07-10T16:05:56-04:00Response by CSM Richard StCyr made Jul 10 at 2018 4:27 PM

<div class="images-v2-count-0"></div>I think it would be neat.... However I don't know if it's the age group I'm in, or what but nearly all my buddies have a hard time walking let alone running anywhere. Give it a try and see how it works out if you get some folks together , even a few it's a good thing.CSM Richard StCyrTue, 10 Jul 2018 16:27:22 -04002018-07-10T16:27:22-04:00Response by Maj John Bell made Jul 10 at 2018 5:44 PM

<div class="images-v2-count-0"></div>So with the Vets in my social circle, it would go like this...<br /><br />5 minute run<br />5 hours of:<br />_beer, <br />_fried or grilled meat, <br />_heroic poses, and <br />_bad jokes.<br /><br />So I'm in.Maj John BellTue, 10 Jul 2018 17:44:27 -04002018-07-10T17:44:27-04:00Response by SSgt Private RallyPoint Member made Jul 10 at 2018 8:23 PM

<div class="images-v2-count-0"></div>I hated running solo. If this was available in my area I would be all for it. However, my knees no longer allow this type of activity without a lot of Ibuprofen afterwards. Now, it is swimming and other low impact cardio. I would say go for it. If the interest is there it will happen. The worse that can happen is you run solo...SSgt Private RallyPoint MemberTue, 10 Jul 2018 20:23:47 -04002018-07-10T20:23:47-04:002018-07-10T10:57:06-04:00
