I understand due to the new regulations, military correspondances are no longer being awarded retirement points but is SSD II considered EBDL's, therefore retirement point awardable?

Thank you

Short answer No on correspondence courses and Yes on EBDL if they are listed in ATRRS, see below. You can thank CW3 (Join to see) for that info, it was posted was on another thread, couldn't link it for some reason.

"Please be advised that the revision of Army Regulation 140-185 (Dated 15 March 2016) Ch 2 Para 2-2 thru 2-4, see also Table 2-3, removed the authorization to award retirement points for correspondence courses. If an IMA or IRR officer was already enrolled in a correspondence course prior to 15 March 2016 and completes the course he/she may submit the ATRSS transcript / course certificate with a DA1380 and be awarded the appropriate retirement points for the course. However, no retirement points will be awarded for correspondence courses for which service members enrolled after 15 March 2016. Any DA1380s submitted for correspondence course completion with an enrollment date after 15 March 2016 will be returned without action.

Below is an excerpt from AR 140-185 detailing the authorized criteria for earning retirement points:

Criteria for earning retirement points
Retirement points may be earned by USAR Soldiers for active duty or duty in an active status for active duty for training (ADT), initial active duty for training (IADT), involuntary active duty for training (involuntary ADT), annual training (AT), IDT, membership points, and for other activities specified in this regulation. The following types of IDT are in accordance with AR 140–1:

a. Regularly scheduled unit training assembly include battle assemblies (BA) formally known as unit training assemblies.
b. Re-scheduled training (RST).
c. Make-up assemblies for missed BA due to AT.
d. Equivalent training (ET) in lieu of scheduled BA or RST.
e. Additional training assemblies (ATA).
f. Two-hour funeral honor IDT.
g. Training of individual Soldiers in nonpay status.

Electronic-based distributed learning (EBDL) correspondence courses (which only applies to Troop Program Unit Soldiers) may still be awarded retirement points. EBDL is training medium for use collectively or individually, with or without the control of an instructor or leader. Soldiers in an inactive duty training status directed or authorized to take EBDL coursework outside of duty or training periods
are not required to be present at a government facility, to be in a duty or training status, to report time or attendance or to wear a uniform. EBDL does not include traditional correspondence courses.

Thank you for your response SSG. Since SSD II is an ATRRS course, I hope it is considered EBDL. Thank you again.

Did you get your pay for this? And how many EBDL hours were awarded, if so? 40 hrs? Wondering if it's the same for all DLC (previously SSD) courses. I know you can get paid for completing them, but just trying to figure out how many hours each DLC is credited for because it's different since I went through SSD2-3.

You can only receive retirement points for EBDL if it's submitted for pay using ATADL (code-42).
1 ATADL = 8hrs if EBDL
There is a specific list of courses that qualify for EBDL.
You are limited to 12 ATA(ATADL) periods a fiscal year.
You cannot be paid for training completed on a day that you are already receive pay.

According to what I see the answer is no. You have to be TPU.
Electronic-Based Distributed Learning - Paid IDT Duty for TPU only

The answer is found on the HRC Web site below:

Thank you for your response SFC David Golden. I've read the HRC website, and was unable to determine if SSD II is considered EBDL. I completed SSD II while under TPU status, and was paid for it as well in my LES but no retirement points were awarded as per the HRC soldier record website. Albiet this was only few days ago...perhaps it takes awhile for the system to reflect the points? Thank you again

1LT (Join to see) I assume that sine you tagged tis in the IRR section you are IRR now? That same web site I gave you the link for also give you the answer on how to correct your points as well. Paragraph below is taken off of that HRC page.

IRR Soldiers must forward missing duty utilizing the Leave and Earning Statement or Master Military Pay Account directly to appropriate Personnel Action Branch at HRC to validate and add missing periods of duty in the retirement point account of the Soldier.
