VA rating is a standard chart that you can find online. If you have more than 20 you are eligible for concurrent receipt. Less than 20 you pick whichever is more. At 30% or more you receive military retirement regardless of time in service. Reduced retirement check of course but you get a blue card.

Note that the "Army" Medical Board % rating is what percentage of you cannot be a soldier. the VA % rating is for quality of life. It is not uncommon for a soldier to be 20% Army medical board and 30% for VA disability. Currently both percentages are rated by VA.

I survived a 27 month medical board and then served for 2 years in a WTB as cadre where I learned so much, and felt soldiers knew too little. I hope this helps you. Glad to share.

Best of luck. If rated above 30% by the Army... It states on there: "retired pay is the higher of formula "a" or "b." There's the Years-of-Service computation which would be 2.5%xYrs___Mnths____x $(retired pay base) = retired pay

and there's the disability rating percentage computation
(percentage rated)_____x retired pay base $_____ = retired pay.

if rated below 30% you'll receive severance pay which is:
2 x base pay of current grade x years of service (at least 3 or 6 to a limit of 19) = severance pay.

THIS FORM ONLY APPLIES TO ARMY COMPENSATION AND NOT VA RATINGS OR COMPENSATION.
