That doesn't necessarily mean that it is unauthorized. I would say that if you are just doing exercises in FM 7-22 you are not doing good PT. I understand that PRT is doctrine but doctrine is just a guideline for leaders to follow. You should be doing much more in order to be physically fit. I think the fire hydrant use to be called the "red dick dog" back in my day, I could be wrong though. Same basic concept as the fire hydrant, coupled with the forced balancing of the torso. Coupled with the bent leg raise, you achieve the same effect.
