No, I feel as if the government has forgotten how much of today's world is conducted in the cyber world. Cyber security should be focused on more and after this make it more of a strength so that things like this can't happen again. Next time it might be something more detrimental to our nation's national security.

We are definitely behind the power curve in regards to Cyber Security. I can't speak for other branches but the Army is ramping up their efforts to harden and expand our cyber footprint. The launch of the 25D program and the soon to be established 17C program will be pivots in Cyber Security that the Army has needed for the last 10 years. The question is now: Will we be able to provide these programs the resources and training necessary to combat these APTs (Advanced Persistent Threats) and State Sponsored Hacker groups that are truly waging war on a new type of battlefield. This is just a small glimpse of what's going on out there. It's chaos.

In my opinion, I don't believe they are and we need to do better. First my PII was compromised by the VA, now it seems as a federal employee, I may have been potentially compromised again. I personally believe we need to work harder on the Cyber front in my humble opinion.

Nope. We take to long to come up with a plan and the way we do it is messed up. We throw people into a new unit or give a current unit a totally new mission set and tell them to figure it out. When given tools for planning, the response is that it will take too long to implement. An example is in the latest Army Communicator regarding the SANS 20 Critical Security Controls. Being too complicated, we have to use another framework. Interesting since WE helped make this framework! If we had started with the 20 CSC long ago in 2008/9, we would be done today. So now we create a new MOS. Good on 'em. It will be interesting to see the types that stay around for a centralized promotion board for the 17 series given the high paying jobs that are open all over the world for Cyber experts.

They are putting heavy emphasis on cyber warfare, but it may never be enough. If someone wants to get in they will. They should increase their cyber threats awareness and team.
