Everyone knew I was there to commission and was still in the Guard. You would think this might be to my benefit, but it was not. I ended up last at every station so they could ramrod all the knew enlistees through the process. You still have to complete all the same examinations and tests as everyone else. It sucked; it was a long day. But, at least it was only one day. When I enlisted in 2002, MEPS was an exercise of willpower and patience that last two miserable days. You will stand in line with the newbies and you will even room with the newbies at the hotel. There is no special treatment. When it comes time to talk with the liaison you will sit with the newbies until it’s your turn. Your time will not go fast than the rest. Best of luck to you. This was just my experience so I hope yours is different. The MEPS process for me was relatively smooth. I drove my POV there and was the first one finished. I didn’t have to go through the medical portion so that could play a factor as well. Experiences vary, maybe you’ll luck out and it’ll be smooth for you too. Either way, congrats and good luck! Ha! I was a National Guard Captain switching to Active Duty and was a nobody at the MEPS station. (The night before they lodged me with an E-1 candidate who ran off to get drunk before his test—but hey I had a single until he came clomping in at 2am—ah, memories). A few people called me by rank occasionally, but I am pretty sure that they had accidentally read my rank and then regretted the knowledge (LOL). Maybe things have changed in 25 years, but you may want to resist holding your breath waiting to see it! Good luck!
