Is the process harder or longer for a prior service member to go AD Navy through the Reserves or directly back to AD? https://www.rallypoint.com/answers/is-the-process-harder-or-longer-for-a-prior-service-member-to-go-ad-navy-through-the-reserves-or-directly-back-to-ad

I'm looking to reenlisting back into the Navy. I've spoken with a recruiter recently and am told the quiet way back in is to go Reserves. I asked about prior service going straight back to AD, and get told that it's possible but it's harder and like a year or longer process.

Has anyone else experienced this or even elaborate as to why it takes so long? Did you do your assocs? Bach? Grad work? If so, what majors and GPAs, so far as you might care to go into...I just have an interest in career/educ things like our interests, that was why I'd just wondered and thought I'd suggest those possibilities, I'd be most interested to hear more, no rush, whenever convenient, obviously.... Did you have a RE3 or 4? Is AD not taking prior service people? Why Quiet? If you join the Reserves you'll have to enlist again and get a conditional release to go AD.
