Good luck with you application and remember, these benefits expire after 15 years. If you just separated, this might seem like a lifetime, but it goes by quickly. If you haven’t ever done this process, you should so that you can use what was promised you. It’s there waiting.

In general the councilor at the school fills out most of the paperwork you need to sign. But even if you had to fill it out it's not hard.

Super easy when you have a Ed counselor that is worth their weight. I completed my paperwork online using the e-benefits website, my Ed counselor reviewed it, signed it and then I uploaded my documents straight the the VA website. I'm currently using the Top Up program to pay for my Masters degree. TA covers $1000 and the GI Bill covers the remaining $200. Very simple process in my opinion.

Register for ebenfits. Go to apply for education benefits. Takes 15~ minutes.

The school VA rep does most of the other half.

As long as you apply on EBenefits account you will be fine.

In Massachusetts every City and Town in the state has a Veteran's Service Agent on the Town or Cities payroll. The Veteran's agent in Millis, MA, where I live not only helped Me, He filled out the paperwork, got Me a Viet Nam Veteran's bonus payment from the state and made it very easy. The Veteran's service agents in our Community have ALL been Veteran's of the US Armed Forces and are more than willing to help. The current Veteran's Agent in Town is a retired USAF TSgt and also a member of both the American Legion Post and AMVETS post in Millis that I also belong to. I also found the college I attended was very receptive to Veteran's and did everything they could to help and make it easier also. They were very happy also to have veteran's that with their experience and thus maturity and often being a little older than many other students had a very positive impact. It was a positive experience.
