Yes, they were pushed back and in some places eliminated, but NEVER were the exterminated. Reading the Afghan security forces response limited more loss of life and damage, is heartening. The Afghan security forces responded as they were taught and with appropriate force. They continue to have a hold on Afghanistan. We think that they are not wanted by the people there, but they are the only force that still fights for the people and they are welcomed, even if it is hush hush. The police and army are so corrupt that with enough money you can do what ever you want with no recourse. There are numerous accounts of wealthy raping or murdering and the government will do nothing. The Taliban can be contacted and they will sneak in and hold Shura court and deal out their justice even to the rich and influential. The people see that as the only way that they can be justified. Until you fix the government there will be a Taliban influence in Afghanistan.
