Battalion, company, platoon, etc. used alone are not treated as proper nouns requiring capitalization yet I&#39;ve had my share of commanders and CSMs that said otherwise out of personal preference. I&#39;ve seen HRC accept both as long as it was consistent across the evaluation. According to standard English, they are not capitalized.
