Is there a limit when it comes to using biometrics for security (fingerprints, eyes, etc.)?

We unlock our phones with fingerprints - some pay for their purchases with fingerprints, too. Some people scan their eyes, hands, or other body parts to access places or information as well. Is there a limit to this? Is this actually the best way?
