I have asked multiple people about maintaining hard copies of training records versus simply scanning and uploading them into a Soldiers profile however, I continuously recieve the unanimous "they said you have to keep hard copies." Who is this they? What regulation stipulates that I must maintain hard copies of any/all training?

Any help would be appreciated!

Sir,
There is no reg stating what hard copies if any are required for training files. I'm sure the intent is for a more paperless/transferable record in a similar way the S1 has done.

Sadly it seems every command has a different translation of the standard. I would suggest calling your battalion S3 which will make your life easy before your next OIP.

DTMS is your database of record. However, what documents are needed for a Soldier to go to school or inprocess their next duty station should be kept on file for ease of access.

Occasionally the Army is "the department of redundancy department."

Not sure what training in specific you are talking about Sir but AR 600-8-104 should cover what you are looking for.

AR 350-1 also covers training documents that must be kept on file for certain periods of time.

I greatly appreciate the reference. I understand their are requirements for personnel records to be held for over 60 years I believe, however 350-1 states specifically that training records must be maintained in DTMS. However, I was looking for anything, other than policy letters, that state hard copy training records must be maintained. I appreciate the assistance!

I scanned 350-1 real quick and did find

3–21. Student education and training records
a.
Individual-student training records will be maintained by the school for at least 12 months after the completion of
training (24 months for Soldiers dismissed from a course). These records will include:
(1) Student observation reports.
(2) Counseling records.
(3) Leadership position evaluations.
(4) APFT results.
(5) Other student performance evaluations.
(6) Academic Evaluation Report (AER) (DA Form 1059-1).
b.
No entry will be made on student training and personnel records that indicate the course was taken in residence or
by distributed learning.

Again just not sure what training you are talking about in specific
