But seems to me you have to wear it for a while to retire with it. Guard and reserve may be different. But, HRC can also deny your retirement because you accepted the promotion. I just saw this happen a year ago for someone who accepted MSG and tried to retire. They denied it and said &quot;strengths do not support&quot; and sent him to Korea. Unless you plan on staying the extra three years to maintain your E8 pay then you&#39;ll need to stay the course. If you know for sure you want out at twenty then I believe you can ask to have your name removed from consideration to avoid the possibility of being denied if you choose to retire before the three years to maintain the pay grade. Another thing you must think about is where you are on that list, it could take six months to a year to get promoted and then the three year mark starts. Good luck! If you want MSG retirement, go to 22 for your high three.
