Is There a Website or Person(s) that has Military History or Unit lineage?

SFC Private RallyPoint Member has obtained an Honerable Discharge from a Soldier who was discharged shortly after WWI. The person from whom he received this discharge wants to research and hopefully find out the battle history of his unit.

The unit at the time was known as A Battery, 62nd Artillery CAC, which served in France from 1918 to 1919. A google search points to a unit supposedly at Ft. Hood, TX known as 1-62nd ADA, however the Ft. Hood Directory does not list that unit at Ft. Hood, TX.

Is there any webistes or individuals that can help David either find the history or lineage of this unit or point us in the direction of someone who can or an organization that researches unit lineage and history?

There is an Army organization the retains unit Heraldry and history. Escapes me though where it is .

I-62 ADA was activated at Schofield Barracks in Hawaii in the early 80s and in 1917 -18 it was activated in Camp Wainwright Scott and moved to New York.

I trust thos is helpful. 1-62 ADA is a Patriot Unit under the 25th Division Artillery in the 25th ID and I served as the acting NCOIC of the DivArty in the 90s. Thank God I am famous now.

I volunteered for the position and am charged as my unit's historian...I would check with someone at the unit you would like lineage information from and ask to soeak with the unit historian if possible.

The Archives in St. Louis now hold WWI unit and individual records.

It looks like the 62nd was shipped to France but never saw action before armistice was declared:
"Constituted as 62nd Arty, CAC, December 1917 and organized 1-7-18 at Ft. Winfield Scott. Assigned to 33rd Bde, CAC, and shipped to Cp. Mills, NY, departing Hoboken and arriving France 7-21-18, where it moved to O&TC at Libourne (Gironde) 8-3-18. The regiment, still at Libourne when the Armistice was signed 11-11-18, returned, arriving Norfolk 2-19-19. Moved to Cp. Stuart, where it was processed, then to Cp. Eustis, where it was demobilized March 1919." I have found unit rosters, pension lists etc dating back as far as the civil war on my wife's side.

1-62 ADA falls under 69th ADA BDE at Hood these days. You could contact them I'm sure if still seeking info.

Col Burroughs, isn't there an ARMY Historian office at each post? At each USAF base, there is a historian's office at the wing ( division level) and at least an office at company level.
