Is there an AFI that says whether or not you're supposed to be on day shift a certain amount of time before departure? https://www.rallypoint.com/answers/is-there-an-afi-that-says-whether-or-not-you-re-supposed-to-be-on-day-shift-a-certain-amount-of-time-before-departure

I have been told that airmen are supposed to be on day shift 45 days prior to a TDY, deployment, or separation to allow propper out-processing time. However, I cannot seem to find it in the AFI. There may be a squadron, group or wing policy on it but Ive always gone by a tried and true method; show me the written policy or it doesn't exist. I never took the word of a fellow airman (or SNCO, NCO or Officer) without documentation. Local policies from group down to perhaps element level may have it, but that's doubtful too. Hope this helps! Who is going to take care of said night shift when you are gone? Are they going to just drop it in someones lap at the last second?

I can see the last two weeks. The 45 days might be a bit much, but not out of the realm. Are you just not wanting to do night shift? If it is a 24 hour shop, well, that is just one of the things you have to do. Welcome to life. According to the AFI's you must be able to deploy within 24 hours for an emergency situation. If you look at the 10 series that covers all of the readiness and deployment procedures. If you have any in depth questions, refer to your UDM. That is what they are there for.
