Is there an authorized PT belt list, and is the old yellow and gray one not on that list?

I've never heard of one, as far as I know it was always unit SOP. That, in turn, often was based on what Clothing & Sales carried

If a list does exist, it would be in your unit SOP. Remember, uniformity trumps logic. DA PAM 670-1 does not mandate usage of a reflective belt, but it does authorize local commanders to make that decision.

As long as I've been in the Army, I have never seen an actual Big Army list of authorized/unauthorized reflector belts. I know, for certain, that some units (from Company to BCT level) will have an SOP on what type and color is to be worn while assigned to that unit.

It would seem that every post is different. At Ft. Jackson we wore orange, at Ft. Knox we wore the yellow and when I was at Ft. Hood we wore the orange vest with name and rank sewed on.

I doubt it because it depends on the unit and what's available on your base. I have one of those still. I don't wear it often but I'm in a joint unit so we don't do organized PT very often. Once a week for the directorate. Once a month for Army Day.

It's unit SOP. Some units require safety vests like in Korea, some want pt belts. Every unit has different standards on this. Every unit I was in save for Korea gave zero shits about the color of your pt belt. It just needed to reflect.

I heard yellow was for E-4 and below, green for NCOs, and blue for officers.

It different based on the unit really. At Fort Drum it was yellow for junior enlisted, green for NCOs and Blue for officers. When I first got to Korea in SEP 13 it was vests for everyone. We wore vests with our Name, rank and Unit. Then we went to yellow PT belts with pin on rank. Then we went to yellow PT belts with velcro rank, then we went No PT Belt. So I ended with 3 different Yellow pt belts, one green pt belt and one PT Vest lol when i left Korea. Now here at US Army South we switched for the regular yellow which I have a ton of to the yellow and grey PT Belt pictured above. Then I worked with Funeral Honors with US Army North and had to wear the PT Belt with the Velcro. At ALC I wore the orange PT Belt

We should just wear Rompers made of the yellow pt belt material with our rank and name on the back and front.

Glad I'm retired -- this or belt thing is stupid -- know where it started? While deployed to Hungary in the 90s, we had to walk in the dark from one part of the base to the other, so we're issued them for safety-- and they were worn by those running -- not in formation, but singly. Big Army decided that was something all soldiers should do, and it just grew from that. Sorry, guys.

Had to wear these in the Navy, whenever we got station on Army bases or facilities. We always thought it was dumb. Especially when I was in Kandahar, sure make it easier for snipers to see us. We know none were around, but still.

Not only did I hate wearing the belts, but hated seeing any that didn't match the uniform. That slime green look with black and gold PTs?? Are you serious? Just awful. Worse yet is when you had to wear it over a shoulder and it cut into your neck in a funky way. For the love of God, will somebody just say we're going to do away with them for PT.

The only way I'd want to keep them is if they're form fitting, for comfort, and were in colors that looked good with the uniforms...not that I have to wear them anymore (retired), but I grieve for my fellow service members. :-)

Throw those stupid ass things in the garbage and be soldiers. This is ridiculous and they make our soldiers look ridiculous.There must have been a CSM left unattended without adult supervision for far to long to come up with the need for the belts.

I'm getting old. We didn't have these, "PT Belts." Our Pt uniforms were great. I was always a road guard being so tall running in formation sucked. I just got a musty orange vest. But, OMG, at least it didn't clash with my PT uniform. Yes, that was sarcasm.

Goes by post policy. At Riley, everyone wears yellow except BRO prep which is profile PT they wear red, and Aviation; enlisted wear yellow, NCOs wear green, and Officers wear Blue.

Outside of those groups everyone else on Riley wears yellow

I’m lucky to have gotten out before the PT “ Belt of Shame”. In the Corps we had the road guard vest and the same for the Army. When I was in the USAF we would wear a belt or Vest when working on the firing line. A few wore a belt on the flight line. But that’s about it. When I left the Army, I saw it spread like wildfire. I understand that you need them for certain things, but marching to the Chow Hall in a freakin company size, not everyone needs it on.
