Is there any way I can renegotiate my contract to change my MOS?

Is there any way I can change my MOS? I swore in and signed a contract, but I haven't been shipped to basic. I choose it based on the bonus. I read alot of reviews that it was a horrible job and offers no real skills for cilvilian life.is there ANY WAY i can change it or is it too late?

No skills for civilian life? Nonsense! You'll have all the skills necessary for gainful employment in the great states of Oregon and New Jersey. Seriously though, speak to your recruiter tomorrow. Considering you've signed your contract it probably is too late, but I suppose the silver lining is that you're learning a lesson that most of your peers will take weeks or months to learn. Before the end, the big green weenie gets us all.

Hi John, I was a 92F while I was in. There are pros and cons to any position that you work while in service. If unable to change your MOS, which is likely, I would advise to do your job the best you can and if given the opportunity to reenlist, try to reclass to a different MOS. Regardless of the job that you do in the Army, my advice is to take advantage of tuition assistance early in your career. College credits and or a degree is going to give you a big advantage when it comes time for promotions. Good luck!

Look, I don't want to screw over a recruiter with his numbers, but having a soldier who already doesn't like their job before they even try it (odd phenomenon as it is) is worse. If they refuse to work with you and do the leg work to change MOS, all you have to do is not show up on ship day. It's a super crappy thing to do, but it happens. It's also even more crappy to have soldiers who hate the army before they even know anything about it. Either push for the change, don't ship, or embrace it and push forward.

1. You SIGNED a contract- it's not "Lets Make A Deal!". 2. You wanted money and you are going to get it. 3. The Service does not care about your Civilian life, cause the job is DEFENDING the Constitution, NOT what you can make 4-20 yrs down the road! 4. They have already spent money on you, made schedules, filled a school slot, planned the MOS numbers/Army Field strength around you! 5. It might be a slim chance but it would require going into a more critical MOS than you 1st picked PROVIDED you are qualified, of course they could just till you to take a hike with your discharge.

It's not a high action/glamorous MOS that for sure, but it is an important one in that you'll be integral in keeping your units vehicles and motor pool operational. You'll get shit for being a POS and not a mechanic, don't let it get to you. W/o you mechanics can't do their jobs, and there are civilian jobs that will equate to this but mostly at car dealerships and parts stores. Its a start And I'd you stay in and reenlist you can always reclass.

Dude I myself am a 92f this job is wonderful. Imma give a big word of advice. There is hardly anybody in the military anymore that like any job. When it comes to transitioning to civillian life as a petroleum supply specialist you have so many offers I'm on my way out now and already have an offer for the union at a salary of 120k

Every job including petroleum supply specialist has it’s ups and downs you can get a civilian job for being a fuel specialist as an truck driver

Yes you can RENO it but you’d have to get a waiver and lose all bonuses you got from your current contract. I’ve done it before.

How long are you on the hook? 3 or 4 years isn’t your whole life, trust me. Go into it with a good attitude and reassess when its time to re-enlist. Does pumping fuel have any real life applications? On the surface, you could get a job filling aircraft at any airport, but from what I’ve seen it doesn’t pay well. Go a little deeper. Your job is to acquire, dispense and track large quantities of an expensive, very necessary commodity to combat units. So you’re learning time, people and supply chain management. You’ll have to learn how to get a shitty job done in often shitty environments on time no matter what. You’ll get more comfortable dealing with rank faster than your peers, since you have to learn to be diplomatic with NCOs and officers that want fuel an hour after your point is closed.

Did you know there’s a skills test waiver available for getting your CDL? If you’re interested, you can have your commander sign a form, take it to your DMV for just the written portion and Bam! class A or B CDL. You’ll get your wheel time driving in no time. There are logistics courses available, especially if you’re going active, which are very valuable in the civilian market.
If you decide to go Guard or Reserve later, your active duty experience will be greatly valued. Since fuel is everywhere and there are always empty slots in units wherever you go.

Another option you may have never even remotely considered, is warrant officer. If you’re younger, there’s always aviation, but 92F also feeds into its own warrant MOS. Talking to my instructors at ALC, those guys are highly sought after by petroleum companies.

I get your reservations and I’m not here to beat you up. This is a big decision, but you made the commitment and as a Staff Sergeant to a new Private, I’m going to say see it through. Take your bonus and do your bit. I have this conversation with new guys with the same concern. Hopefully you have good leadership, which really makes a job good or bad. If in the end you really hate it, get another MOS. If nothing else, you’ll know it can’t get any worse than where you came from. I hope this helps at least a little. I know you want out now. I say give it a try, you may be surprised.
