My daughter is supposed to be born on Aug 22nd. I’ve sent up my ordinary leave form as well as the paternity leave form a month ago. Higher ups just let my chain know today that I have to come back to work after my ordinary leave ends and sign out for paternity leave. My leave starts 12 Aug. I have already purchased my ticket for 12 Aug- 11 Sep. The 10 days plus the 21 authorized for paternity leave. Is there any way around having to purchase multiple plane tickets ?

Provide your command a copy of the ALARACT Message which states you can take the paternity leave in-conjunction with ordinary leave without returning to sign in and out.

I’ve asked my NCOIC for the SOP. He says he has to ask for it .

If the SOP is dated before the ALARACT Message, then the ALARACT Message trumps the SOP. If you’re PCSing, I’m not sure why they are giving you a hard time because you’re not returning to that command. For any Army regulation, message, etc, your unit can add to it but they cannot take away from it.CPL (Join to see)

Good Afternoon SFC,
My branch NCOIC just informed me that the SOP is dated in 2017. He says that the new commander has to update the SOPs. Does Army Directive 2019-05 trump the old SOP ? Or do I have to wait for the update ?

The new directive is the most current guidance. CPL (Join to see)
