I changed PCS orders once in my career: A General Officer's executive officer made a phone call to the chief of personnel's executive officer for me. Similar to one CSM talking to another CSM on your behalf. Be very honest on it and let the CSM do his/her magic! That by its own merit is a ticking bomb that might go off if not dealt in a timely manner. They are there for these type of issues. Your question states "ex" but not whether it's ex-spouse or ex-relationship other than by marriage. Three notes: 1, the sm's oath of enlistment is to the Country and Service regardless of personal commitments and or conflicts with other service members. Do not allow those issues to become morale, performance or discipline issues for you in fulfilling that oath, or the chain of command will get involved in negative ways. 2. There are established policies and procedures for sepperate assignments for spouses, as well as policies and procedures for fraternization. Follow them to your benefit and the benefit of the service. 3. Two key members of your chain of command not mentioned in the previous comments are your Chaplain and retention NCO. Both of them should be consulted anytime there is a conflict of duty assignments and personal relationships.
