Is there anyway to change recruiter orders for another force generating assignment?

I recently received my email from HRC stating that I have orders for recruiter. I have tried calling branch a few times but have not gotten anyone to pick up. I love training soldiers, leading PT, demonstrating the ways to become a better soldier, leader and individual. I feel I would be more cut out to be a drill sergeant. Is there anyway I can one for one the orders?

Seriously, I can only say good luck. Recruiter trumps everything! we had people pulled out of deployments for recruiting duty . My best suggestion to you is to make sure you are fully qualified to be a recruiter (line scores, dependents, tattoos, etc). If not you can talk to branch about that. NOTE there is a waiver for everything.
That said, I was in your shoes a couple of months ago, I did not want it and I just graduated ARC in August. Recruiting is not as bad as it is made out to be. And everything you mentioned you can do out here in recruiting. It's a great career enhancer and you truly have the ability to put some great youth in the Army. Recruit in your own image. If you are qualified , I highly doudt you can change these orders. Once your name or in this case SSN is given to recruiting command , you belong to recruiting command. I will say this was the toughest job I have done in the Army. If you do this job well you should line of a promotion to the senior ranks.

Every grunt I recruited with said the same thing, that we would be better at Drill. USAREC has you for three years, make the best of it. I didn't think I would like it, but I trained Future Soldiers and ROTC cadets, so I didn't lose that aspect of leading. Best of luck, you'll do fine.

I recruited from 08-11 and it turned out to be an awarding assignment. As far as getting out of it not a chance. As some have already stated USAREC is king. I would tell you to focus on what area you would like to recruit in. Word of advice choose an area with a good market. Don't base your decision on close to home or anything else. A good market should be your number one priority because if you are successful in recruiting you will make the senior ranks. Good luck.

USAREC trumps all. Branch really cannot do anything for you. The only way I have seen people get out of it is by not being qualified. Like others have said focus on an a good station rather then going home. I did three years recruiting got my squad leader time and was immediately picked up for Drill. It's a career enhancement just take it for what it's worth and drive on.

You might have a chance due to the extreme shortage of DS. Keep calling. Get w your 1SG and CSM. They may know someone they can call for you too.

Brother, a buddy of mine in my platoon called branch literally every day until they took him off orders for recruiting. If you don't want it there's always a way. If you can get off recruit orders you can pcs and get drill orders down the road.

Drill Sargent Selection is something else again, you have to apply for that separately.

I requested Drill Sergeant School back in 1994, USAREC immediately grabbed me for Recruiting. None of my senior NCO's or Officers could get the orders deleted. At the time, you either accepted the orders or you sign a DCS(Declination of Continued Service). I was a soldier who enjoyed the field and training. Not sitting behind a desk. Make the most of it. When I recruiting orders I tried the same thing, I was told, by my branch manager, I should have taken charge of my career before they did. suck it up and do my part.

Your branch selected you, not USAREC. You were selected because your branch is required to send a certain amount of personnel to be recruiters. It is referred to as a mission. Your branch also has a mission amount for DSs as well. The thing that will be a problem is your grade. Most branches have no issue with sending a SGT to recruit, but they typically want SSGs for DS duty. There are several reasons for this. The largest is the experience level and maturity they look for as well as the positions of trust screening. DS is very high visibility especially when someone screws up. Branch trends to default to the more experienced Soldiers for that duty if at all possible. Because of the gender requirement in the training realm, females are in high demand and are selected as SGTs at a higher rate than males for DS duty simply because of less available SSGs.

It all depends on slots and your MOS career path. Mind you I retired almost 4 years ago but I don't see why that would change because you need either/or.

Probably not, but it never hurts to try. I would say, bite the bullet and do your best in Recruiting and then look at volunteering for Drill Sergeant after doing your tour in USAREC. While it might be hard, look at this as the compliment that it is.
