Can I be so bold to say that this has more to do about being attractive than it does about being a woman? &nbsp; It is a well known proven fact that people who are perceived as attractive, are often treated better, get better opportunities, so on and so forth. &nbsp; There was just research done on this even showing it with our children and how they are treated differently in school by their teachers, based on appeal. &nbsp; It is human nature. &nbsp; Why? &nbsp;wait for it....because we are attracted to them. &nbsp; That's the meaning of the word. &nbsp;A moth flies to the light because it's attracted to it; the light that is off...not so much. &nbsp; The brighter the light, the more moths. &nbsp; It is what it is. &nbsp; Now whether you're male of female I think is irrelevant. &nbsp; It is more PREVALENT for women in the Army simply because &nbsp;there are so few in comparison to the population of men. &nbsp;Reverse the numbers and this could easily be the same discussion for men instead of women.<div>If you are not attractive simply by looks alone then if you desire to compete with those who are, you need to find whatever you have that is attractive and start attracting. &nbsp;Because it is apparent that for humans, we go to what we are attracted to, just like every other living thing on this planet.</div><div>(Now let me have it, because I know it's coming) &nbsp;;-)</div>

That is true. I have just read a study that attractive people are perceived to be more trustworthy. People like to be around attractive people. It is a sad reality that we have to face. I realized that a long time ago. Due to that I work out and stay in shape. It is just as much a put of it as anything else in your career. If i am competing for a Company command and the other guy is out of shape and has a bit of a gut he will lose. The DA photos will only tell you so much.

That study has been replicated several times over the years and the results are similar each time it is completed.  If you look good you have an advantage over someone who does not.  I worked in state government for thirty plus years and saw very intelligent people, many obese, who were passed over for promotion by attractive, yet stupid, challengers for the position.  The trend for this occurance was the higher you climbed the ladder, the more stupid the person promoted.  My organization may have some variables because it is heavy with female employees and, but the very top spots were males.  Rumors had many attractive women who were promoted, used their attributes, whereas the less attractive, especially over weight females were passed over, even though they would have performed much better, based on their history of performance in decision making.  Being a male, I was only able to achieve front line supervisory positions, even though I held the highest scores on promotional tests and had statistics of performance that showed I was an effective leader.  I also had a bad habit of being blunt when I called people out for making stupid decisions and they were generally female and generally my boss.  Self inflicted wounds, but I sleep good at night having done so.

My answer:  The loyal opposition voted down my comment.  This is just fine and exactly what we want them to do.  Let them show their hand in a safe environment.  It is even better if we can find out why they believe what they believe. As our marines teach - get to  know the opposition, how they live, how they fight, what they think, their core doctrine, training, strategies, strengths and weaknesses - then we must improvise, adapt, and overcome.

Keep in mind it was not so many years ago that General William Westmoreland wanted us to wear starched white uniforms, white stockings, and white shoes in the middle of an exceedingly hot and humid jungle amidst flying red dust in the summer and very sticky red mud in the winter.  We very politely ignored him - and sweated through triage, surgery, and recovery - in OD greens.

We must find a way to educate the unenlightened - or remove them from our midsts - lest they get in the way of saving lives.

I completely understand what you are saying. I have had to suffer in my time in the military with  my stunning good looks and vibrant black hair. I figured I would become an officer because i thought it would be appreciated.
