Is this APFT administered properly and fairly?

During recent APFT push up event, I did 12 push ups, all counted by the scorer (SGT) but told to stop when the 1SG who was walking around yelled out, "no,no,no." During retry, I did 20 something push ups, all counted by the scorer, but 1SG returns and interferes. Then the NCOIC also joins, yelling my push ups are not good while recording me with her phone. What's wrong with this pic? FM-21-20.CH14

Your next APFT, after this one is thrown out, has to be observed by your CSM and possibly your BC. The only way this situation could be worse, is if you are the Company Commander. I would suggest a neutral source in this conflict to validate your push-up form prior to the next test.

CPT Private RallyPoint Member They should have certified that the graders knew what the hell they were doing. When I was a 1SG and PSG we certified our graders.

all graders should be verified prior to the test, in that not only can they pass but do it correctly, prior to the apft sm's should be shown the proper and improper standards, push ups have always been a problem, I have found it beneficial to have another unit come in to give the test, that leaves out personal feelings most likely a drill unit

If you are going to refute this with the chain of command, do not mention FM 21-20, that was replaced by TC 3-22.20 in 2010, which was replaced by FM 7-22 in 2012, which is now the current book. However, if they were using a DA 705 that cites FM 21-20, or reading directly from FM 21-20, they were in the wrong. How to do a push up has not changed throughout the updates, but using an outdated reg is never the right answer.

Why in the hell is the NCOIC recording you? How are you doing the pushups? Did the explain as to why your pushups would be considered "wrong"?

unprofessional to say the least. See if you can take it with a sister unit or have an NCO from a sister unit present to help monitor.

CPT Private RallyPoint Member in words of the 1SG "no, no, no". If they counted 12 push-ups that is past the first ten then you failed if terminating the event: "AFTER THE FIRST 10 PUSH-UPS HAVE BEEN PERFORMED AND COUNTED, HOWEVER, NO RESTARTS ARE ALLOWED. THE TEST WILL CONTINUE, AND ANY INCORRECTLY PERFORMED PUSH-UPS WILL NOT BE COUNTED."

Also, it is the OIC/NCOIC's job to train the scorers. It is not their job to interfere with the grading. "Scorers must be thoroughly trained to maintain uniform scoring standards. They do not participate in the test." Scorer's job is to "Count the number of correctly per-performed repetitions aloud."

This sounds considerably fishy and like messing with an individual instead of enforcing standards as this is not how you enforce the standards.
