Is this Navy dress uniform still in service?

Recently while visiting a thrift store in Banning, California I purchased this Navy Commander's coat at a Goodwill for $12. The inside pocket with the brand and person's name was cut out. Is this still the modern Navy uniform? I thought it looked great so I bought it. I'm not sure how old this is.

I"m pretty sure it is...at least it still was in 2010.

The "new" one's are honestly made from cheaper materials, but every now and then, someone would score a real wool one (usually at a thrift store or online). My last SDB jacket is worsted wool...much crisper/sharper look. The braid becomes a pain because it oxidizes over time (the older type).

Check this out, LTC Private RallyPoint Member. My father purchased his service dress blues from Browning King in New York City for $40 to $55 in JUN44. This coat is all that remains of his uniforms. It looks like your photo. But for materials, I think the Navy service dress blue uniform is the same today. Yep, it is a Service Dress Blue Jacket. Of course it is current for now, who knows what stupid ideas and changed the uniform Board has coming up! (Some sarcasm added....)

With the rate at which the Navy keeps changing uniforms, yours might be a difficult question to answer. This old sailor can't keep up with today's uniform changes.

That is still the dress blue uniform for the Navy.
