Is Tricare Selected Reserve and Tricare Dental worth it or should I just stick with the civilian portion of it?

If you live near an army Health Clinic and have a family Tricare Reserve Select is really worth checking out. The Dental coverage is run of the mil, but better then no coverage.

Well I don't live near a health clinc or have a family so I guess the civilian side is better?

I do not believe that you can be on the TRICARE reserve select and a Civilian Health Plan. If you are a MILTECH, you must be on the Civilian Health Plan (not sure what that is currently). If you are a GS or DA Civilian, you might be able to select the TRS Plan or Opt out. You should check with your HR Rep to see what is allowed.

If you can get onto the Tricare Reserve Select then do so. It's much better than Medicaid. I believe the cost for singles is about $81 and $168 per month for families. (This may be dated, but check with Tricare for the current rates) It's comprehensive coverage and you can use at all doctors that accept Tricare.
