I would say it depends on if you want to be moved all around the country or just stay in the one state you are from. I have applied for almost 3 years now as an enlisted 56M. I finally got my call last month for it. There aren't many slots for Chaplain Assistants so that made it tougher. Then they changed it to where you had to at least be an E5 to qualify for my MOS. So, it all depends. Now, what I have heard from many reservist is that it is up to the individual as to how active they want to be. I known a young lady out here at Fort Riley who is a reservist that has been very active working with the warrior transition battalion. Training Officer, S3, S4, etc. Branch is often predominant to the Bn or BDE. I've seen training officers in a support Bn be anything from IN to MI. Almost seems to be a "right place at the right time" kind of thing. Reserves rely on traditional members and ARTs to carry the unit. Guard units hire more AGR's and have a few Technicians onboard. It will vary from unit-to-unit. Even if they've advertised a position available to fill, likely its already taken & they know who's going to get it. The position advertisement is just a formality, as they have to do it by law. Army Reserve slots are centralized and any Active Duty, Reservist, or National Guard Soldier can apply for a Reserve AGR slot.

Army Reserve AGR is still competitive, but if you have a decent file, with good evaluations & all military schooling knocked out... you have a good shot at getting picked up. So Army Reserve AGR is easier on the Officer or Enlisted side to get than a National Guard side in my opinion. A caveat to the Reserve AGR is you must already hold the MOS for them to bring you on, i.e. if you have a Combat Arms MOS- you will not get picked up in the Reserves. But, if you have Supply/Logistics, Engineer, Intel, MP, etc. you'll have a decent shot of getting picked up.

Now if you know the right people in the Guard or held the right positions, then you can be in like Flynn..... :) LTC Private RallyPoint Member Tue, 21 May 2019 15:38:43 -0400 2019-05-21T15:38:43-04:00 Response by 1SG(P) Private RallyPoint Member made Aug 16 at 2019 8:28 AM https://www.rallypoint.com/answers/it-is-easier-to-find-agr-positions-in-the-national-guard-or-reserves-enlisted-and-officer?n=4921641&urlhash=4921641

Nope 1SG(P) Private RallyPoint Member Fri, 16 Aug 2019 08:28:30 -0400 2019-08-16T08:28:30-04:00 2016-01-02T01:19:57-05:00
