The twist is that I'm doing it through the ACAP Virtual center (https://www.acap.army.mil/virtual/) instead of an ACAP facility (SSG Angela Valtierra - great for those that don't live near one)

My honest opinion going in was that it was going to be a waste of three days. I'm already very familiar with the civilian sector, job searches, etc as I went through this process 15 years ago and spent 10 years in civilian sector before coming back on active duty.

I was wrong.

While a significant part of what I saw yesterday was a brush-up for me, the tools, advice, and planning strategies were good and indispensable for someone that has never gone through the process.

Highly recommend any army retirees out there that haven't seen what ACAP has done in a few years check it out if they are even contemplating a shift in employment (since non-retiree veterans can only use it for 180 days after separation, I assume that anyone in that category has already gone through it).

I've always been a supporter of ACAP for my transitioning troops, but really had an eye-opener when I saw at how far they came since I last looked at them.

I ran the numbers and did a bit of research online and found out that the comparable cost for a course like this to other job seekers is in the range of $3-5k ... a price most job seekers would not likely pay for and a significant advantage for our transitions soldiers. I read the article and good advice in there. I have checked out a ton of sites, leaned into Securityjobs.com, LinkedIn, USAjobs.com and other formats for work outside or post military. The continued government service advice in there is spot on as it clearly says you must do TWO separate resumes, one with specific guidance for a GS position versus the single page format for civilian hire. There is more, check it out, nice assistance SSG V.

p.s. like the MP CSM bust out too as I used to be an MP! CW5 Sam R.
