So I got orders to Drum after Christmas too. It’s a whole new world. Where are you from?

Housing is good. Unless you get sent way out to BFE. My wife and I had an apartment in Watertown first. 130 Court ST. The apartments kept getting broken into so they moved us to on base housing. Its a long inprocessing schedule designed to get you to slow down and get established before beginning work at your unit. I cannot speak to off post housing but on post is all covered by Mountain Community Homes. https://www.fortdrummch.com/ . You can contact them and actually sign for a house online (they will send you 20-30 pictures of the house) before you arrive so its ready as soon as you arrive (key will literally be in a lock box on the front door they give you a code to). Honestly in 4 my different duty station experience inprocessing at drum was by far the easiest transition.

Fort Drum Mountain Community Homes | Convenient On Post Living

Exclusive community conveniently located on Fort Drum that will exceed your expectations with welcoming homes, superior service and variety of amenities, events and activities.

Response by SSG Private RallyPoint Member made Nov 8 at 2018 10:07 AM 2018-11-08T10:07:23-05:00 2018-11-08T10:07:23-05:00 SFC Stephen King 4110551

SPC Private RallyPoint Member welcome to the North Country it can be challenging. Post housing is great if you don’t want to deal with house and commute issues which come up with frigid temperatures. If you love outdoor activities, you will enjoy your time Response by SSG Private RallyPoint Member made Nov 10 at 2018 11:29 AM 2018-11-10T11:29:29-05:00 2018-11-10T11:29:29-05:00 SGT Private RallyPoint Member 4124586

Fort drum isn’t really the best place for off post housing most of the joes I know live either in Carthage or Watertown. Carthage being the more family oriented of the two. I know of one apartment complex everyone ends up living is Eagle Ridge . It’s close to base and are newer than most places out here Response by SGT Private RallyPoint Member made Nov 13 at 2018 8:20 PM 2018-11-13T20:20:32-05:00 2018-11-13T20:20:32-05:00 2018-11-07T21:09:14-05:00
