Just sweared in as a 35M. Shipping out in a couple of days. Any advice for basic and AIT?

If there is any 35M who have any other type of advice about the career field, that would also be appreciated. I would rather learn from others than look back and wish I had done things differently.

Make it through TRADOC and apply what you’ve learned in your units. You’ll learn and teach afterwards. But, you’ll need to make it through TRADOC before thinking about AIT.

Too late to practice now if you only have a couple days, but... get good at typing. You would be surprised how many folks struggle with report writing because they can't type fast enough (or accurately enough. Practice speaking to random people you do not know. Practice proper grammar.
If you can do those three things, AND you listen and apply what they teach you, you will do fine.

Eat as fast as you can in basic. When you are forced to do pushups, smile and knock them out. They will pick on you less. Lock your valuables. I forgot to lock my. Just like that $50 was stolen and my watch. It is not a pleasing feeling to know there is a thief in your platoon.

I'd say pay close attention to the laws the govern interrogation and source ops. Make sure if you can't quote them you always know your left and right limits. Also don't forget to explore and understand the grey area that is the real world ops.

Active listening is one of the most important skills you can practice to prepare for AIT. Practice it at BCT. Not only will you better understand and learn the information you are being taught at BCT, but you will be well prepared on that skill at AIT.

Language and writing. Learn to say things clearly and correctly. Observe, listen, and learn to report what you have heard and observed. The schools will teach you the standards. Master the standards BEFORE you forget them and go with the flow. Does that make sense? I hope so. Good luck!

Always be real. Honesty presents opportunity to foster real relationships. Be careful what you divulge to sources etc. But be real with them. Foster respect. It will get you everything you are there to obtain.

Fort Huachuca like any place is as good as you make it.
School requires hard work, attention to detail, and dedication. Come here with the intent to work 1st and enjoy your time 2nd. Don't get involved with trouble makers and stay focused. School is school get it done the first time so you can move on out to your permanent FORSCOM unit. Be safe and good luck to you :)
