The hours are long but the work requires you to think. The biggest satisfaction is when you work on a bird that takes off with 2 lives aboard and they go protect hundreds on the ground. Foot soldiers love nothing more than seeing one of our birds covering the butts. I started when the MOS was 67R on Alpha model apaches. The aircraft sure has evolved since then. I agree with what others have said. You will definitely gain a lot of opportunities from this job. Good luck! Go to PT, go to chow, go to school, death by PowerPoint and maybe some hands on maintenance at the end of the week if you’re lucky. Leave school, get chow, go to sleep, repeat.

Day to Day life can vary. If you’re lucky you’ll be put in a Line company. Which, hence the name, Work mostly on the flight line. They launch the birds, wash the birds, do daily inspections, minor maintenance here and there, joke around with the pilots, and go home early most days when there are no more flights.
If you’re unlucky, such as myself, you’ll be stuck in Delta company Maintence for most of your career. Delta takes care of all the major maintenance. Such as engine replacements, 500 hour phase inspection (whole aircraft gets torn down and damn near every component inspected), transmission swaps, main rotor maintence. All sounds great.. but usually Delta stays until release time if not later, gets treated like children 23/6, deals with all the stupid bs like sweeping and mopping a floor that’ll never be clean, formations multiple times a day, etc.

With all that aside, it’s the best decision I’ve ever made and it’s a great MOS. I wouldn’t trade it for anything. I’ve met some of my best friends doing this job and the civilian opportunities when you get out are amazing. It’s always a satisfying feeling seeing the first run-ups after a 500hr. It is pretty cool I guess. I enjoyed my time there. I mean it is pretty much just learning how to read the manuals and all about perfection when working on these aircraft. It will teach you a lot of attention to detail and push you to be extremely organized. Their also is a lot of checks envolved in this field so more than half of what you do will be making sure you did it right. Delta company maintenance is a different animal all together than a flight company, they are the AMC (aviation maintenance company) so their daily work is established by the priorities set forth by the Production Control office, to touch on previously stated about them usually being stuck doing details and crap work, you have to realize that a D co has twice the personnel of a flight company so they are inherently going to have a bigger slice of the details that nobody wants to do, in a good battalion however, the flight company Platoon Sergeants should be farming Delta company or potential crew chiefs and in turn as. Soldier in Delta company you should b willing to do any job with enthusiasm in order to prove you are capable of performing in a flight company where supervision isn't as high due to manning and other reasons. I personally have done both and both make you a more well rounded maintainer. Above everything else just always remember every time you turn a wrench 2 pilots are entrusting their life to the maintenance you performed, it's an awesome career and the potential for jobs outside of the army afterwards are generally higher for Apache maintainers than most other aircraft types, because they do break alot and we get a lot of reps in fixing them. Whatever you choose the army is a good profession and it takes every job to make it smoothly! 1SG Private RallyPoint Member Thu, 07 Jun 2018 15:21:31 -0400 2018-06-07T15:21:31-04:00 Response by SPC Private RallyPoint Member made Jun 6 at 2020 6:24 PM https://www.rallypoint.com/answers/just-took-the-asvab-and-thinking-about-going-in-as-15r-can-anyone-tell-me-what-training-is-like-or-the-day-to-day-life?n=5977431&urlhash=5977431

Go 15T!!!!! 15R really sucks in my opinion I’m qualified on both SPC Private RallyPoint Member Sat, 06 Jun 2020 18:24:28 -0400 2020-06-06T18:24:28-04:00 2018-04-02T14:43:33-04:00
