Just wondering if anyone has a funny story from a promotion board interview?

In 1991 I was asked who the leader of North Korea was. The only name I could come up with was Long Duck Dong. It was a good tension breaker. I still walked out with a 198 out of 200.

LMAO...I'm not even sure why they would ask that question in 1991. North Korea was pretty insignificant then (unless you were in S. Korea at the time, then I get it)

I have a story from a soldier of the month board. One of the SGMs asked me a question and I didn't understand him, so I asked him to repeat it. He did, and I still didn't understand him. So, I had a choice ... ask him to repeat the question again, or ... just say, "I don't know, Sergeant Major." I took the easy way out and told him I didn't know. This was 1976 and he was asking something about President Ford. As I walked out of the board, he said to me, "There's a Ford in your future" (which was a popular commercial at that time). Bottom line, though, was that I won the board! All's well that ends well.

All of my SGT board questions were pretty run-of-the-mill, and I answered them all. I actually got a max score from every board member except my own 1SG, who docked me 10 points for reasons still unknown...the end result was a 198, and I made SGT the next month. As CW5 Private RallyPoint Member said - all's well that ends well.
