KOREA - I served bumper sticker.

I was heading into Fort Belvoir today and saw a car with both an "IRAQ, I served" and a "KOREA, I served", sticker. I told my wife, damn, this guy has been around forever, and so I pulled up along side to see this impressive individual. He looked maybe 25. I realized after, that he probably served in Korea recently.

Your thoughts on having a "KOREA, I served" for serving in Korea now?

Personally, I wouldn't put either sticker on my car, but if this is how the Soldier likes to express themselves, I'm fine with it.

Personally, I don't put anything on my vehicles especially the one I drive. I do this for two reasons: first, I think it detracts from the appearance of the vehicle; two, it's an OPSEC thing for me. When I see a vehicle with a "Half my heart is in (insert deployed location)", I think of the danger that person has placed their family. A smart criminal (yes, there are some out there) will know it means the wife's military husband is away and the house MIGHT possibly be easy pickings for whatever criminal activity they have in mind.

Like MSG Quick stated though, if others wish to put something on then by all means. It's up to each individual. :D

I am pretty sure that sticker is meant for the Korean War veterans. As a young Soldier I was proud of my job, my unit, and the war zones I served in so I flaunted a little...especially with Infantry stickers on the high interest rate Grand Prix I owned as a Specialist. As I matured in the Army I realized that I was slowly becoming more conservative. Now all I have is an O.I.F license plate...but no less prouder than I was as a Specialist. Its always good when a Soldier is proud of something...unless its drugs. Drugs are bad! :)

Too bad you didn't take a picture of it. I've never seen that sticker.

I've been on orders twice for Korea and both times they were deleted, with no explanation. I've always wanted to do a tour there.

Why should those of us stationed in Korea be able to post one of those stickers? I hand them out all the time at different events I sponsor. "I served" doesn't have to mean you served there during direct combat operations. And let's not forget, technology the Korea War is still not over.

I served 2 years in Korea and I am proud of that service, and there is no way in hell I would put anything announcing that in my window. My only stickers of or about my military service are the new Army bumper sticker and two window decals that I have received from the American Legion. Simplicity is best.

I have an Iraqi Campaign sticker on mine, along wtih a Signal Regiment Sticker. Proud of both but since I have left active duty, I have questioned myself putting them on in the first place. Having said that, if they deployed somewhere, I can see a sense of pride in a sticker on their car. If they are part of a regiment or a unit in current or in past times, I can see that sense of pride too. But as it is said above, it brings out an OPSEC risk, which is why I have questioned myself ever since day one. As much as they have faded, the temptation is there to replace them with new ones..but part of me is thinking to leave them be and let them come off in due time or by my own hand.

Now as far as Korea goes, if they deployed there, or served in the Korean conflict, I don't have an issue with it. It is those who were assigned there and came back acting all big and bad (and I know one such instance) that they deployed there.

Honestly mixed feelings.

That sticker is definitely meant for Korean War Veterans. On a side note I do have a Combat Infantry license plate frame I slap on for road trips . Gets you out of a ticket every time!

OK, true story. I was on a Coast Guard cutter right off the coast of Granada in 1983 (hopefully I'm not divulging any classified information) at the time of our invasion. I was on the bridge looking at the radar and we could see an aircraft carrier battle group (The Independence) along with a bunch of other vessels bearing down on us. It was quite a thing to see actually. We contacted them and were basically told to get the F out of Dodge! No one remembered to contact the CG apparently, ya know the folks that patrol these areas every day! lol.

Long story short...I have decided to not put a "Granada - I served" bumper sticker on my car! I think it was the correct decision ;)

While I think it's in bad taste, the Korean War technically ended with an armistice that only was a negotiated, extended "cease fire." Not a "peace treaty." That would mean the two nations are still at war.

Those technicalities out of the way, I think it's not in the best taste. Everyone thinks of the most active hostilities of the "Korean War era" as 1950 - 1953.

I served in Korea in the early eighties Kunsan AB. Although a sticker saying I served in Korea I would think would relate to the Korean war in the 50's.
