I'm not looking forward to leaving my family (wife and five kids), but I feel strongly about enlisting, so I know it was the right decision. Basic training is a big suck. They want you to understand the Army way of life. Accept it and don't fight it. Some will try to resist it and maintain their individualist at the expense of their platoon. With that being said you should do all you can to support your follow soldiers. <br /><br />Most important, find soldiers like you that are successful and learn from another. Also, find the soldiers that are self propelled sandbags, this is not a good thing, and stay away from them. If you are in the proximity of them you may find yourself in a difficult situation due to them. Jackson, SC in 1991, so I'm pretty sure it's changed a little since then :)<br />Best advice to give is to learn everything you can about Drill, BRM, all the things. You don't necessarily have to volunteer for everything, but pay attention to the details and you'll do fine. Additionally, don't be 'that guy', the one that's constantly complaining.
