Also, if there is a good electronic type version that you found useful, please advise. I have tried a couple iPhone/iPad applications but found them lacking. Also I can easily reference everything even if I'm in an area where I can't or don't have access to my smart phone/tablet. It doesn't have to be fancy. You must know your Soldiers to train them. Electronic is too convenient and takes away from being personalized. As I see it, the primary issue with using an electronic device is that you are locked in to a prescribed format which normally is not easy to customize. With the 'old school' leader book, you are free to add whatever 'non-standard' type information that you feel may be relevant based on the situation at hand. Let's face it, one standard format does not always fit all cases.
While high-tech normally receives more 'cool points', it's not always the most practical or efficient.
Either way one chooses, the importance of having one can't be overestimated.
