Lean Six Sigma Points for Promotion

I have just completed my Lean Six Sigma training and was curious as to how to submit them onto my ERB and how many points I would receive for promotion. I am also wondering where on the ERB catagories does it fall. The actual certificate has no hours stated on them... Help please as I have heard so many different senarios. (Only recently finished my green belt)

The Army gives points for that? Big Blue just tells us to take the class and it MIGHT show up in your Annual Enlisted Performance Report.

There are 4 different levels of LSS. Yellow, Green, Black and Master Black Belt. What training have you completed? They are all extremely different in training hours.

Well considering the fact that certain people are emailing the answers to the test around like they did with SSD and correspondence courses I don't think they should be worth squat.

I think that this is great opportunity for Soldiers, but as with the great variety of colleges and their accreditations, Lean Six Sigma has off shoots that claim to be the same but have not been regulated. If hours are the requirement per promotion points then I suggest you contact the company you received the training from and have them provide you a memorandum with the hours per each module.

Just a note for those retiring or separating this SM is on the right track attaining training that will assist them in their career now and is relevant to employers outside the Army.

To all,

Lean Six Sigma training would not count as promotion points unless:

(a) the training was completed in Skillport, or
(b) it was completed as part of a college course.

The only way for things to go on your ERB are:

(1) College classes (under Civilian Education)
(2) Technical Cert (if they fall under the technical certification matrix
(3) Physical (resident) course in military education.

No Lean Six Sigma courses are covered under military education.
The only Lean Six Sigma courses covered as a technical cert are Green and Black Belt, if you taken under ASQ.

I have Lean Six Sigma Green and Black Belt Was told today EVEN though they were taken through an accredited Technical institute that they are not WORTH CRAP. 5 months these have been on my ERB and now that I'm top of my promotion list now my BN wants to remove them. over 700 Dollars out of my pocket and I wont be getting DIDDLY Squat but yet they want me to start a project for the BN. NO THANK YOU.

Though I can't answer your question, what I can do is say congratulations. There are so many in the military that could care less about CPI training but over my 25+ years in the service I have found it very useful in improving methods and practices. If this was online training, it won't count towards promotion. But you can find a list of resident courses through the HRC page. Just go to the "promotions" tab and you'll a few links on the right, one being the link to resident courses. Of you do have some that were completed in a classroom environment, then take the certificate to your S1, they will upload it to your file.

Side bar question--did you complete the training to add capacity to your organization or to attain promotion points? What LSS project has your organization assigned you or have you developed? I've got three LSS projects being worked in my organization and I constantly question the relevance, as they don't actually contribute to building any capacity. Arg!

I went through the responses looking for consensus and then found out that you were not recognized on your ERB for having completed this. I think it is insane that the Army won't accept distance learning LSS certification. Congratulations on your accomplishment, and sorry that the Army doesn't recognize it.

new to this....anyone on here on fort campbell?
ive been trying to get into the black belt course but the only class close is fort knox.
is there anyone that is a black or master black belt that can be a mentor and give me ideas for a project on fort campbell?....ive been talking to the poc on the ako web page but they keep giving me the same info...have to wait till july for the next years classes....if there is any info that someone can give me...that would be great...thanks for your support and time

B. Army Lean Six Sigma Deployment Guidebook, Version 3.0, 1 February 2008.

1. Purpose. The intent of this message is to clarify the requirements and procedures for requesting and awarding Army Lean Six Sigma Additional Skill Identifiers.

2. General. Effective 1 June 2006, the Army approved the awarding of Additional Skill Identifiers 1X (Green Belt in Lean Six Sigma), 1Y (Black Belt in Lean Six Sigma), and 1Z (Master Black Belt in Lean Six Sigma). The proponent for awarding these identifiers is the Deputy Under Secretary of the Army for Business Transformation (DUSA-BT) Procedural guidance for requesting these additional skill identifiers is contained in the references above.

3. Certification Requirements: The certification requirements for each additional skill identifier are listed below. Note that completion of the LSS course alone does not qualify an individual for the ASI.

A. Green Belt Certification Criteria (ASI 1X):

(1) Complete Army approved LSS GB Program of Instruction or provide proof of completion of formal LSS GB Training from another accepted source

(2) Pass Army LSS GB exam with a minimum score of 70%

(3) Complete one LSS GB level DMAIC project, or lead three LSS Rapid Improvement Events, or lead sub-tasks of a LSS BB level DMAIC project

B. Black Belt Certification Criteria (ASI 1Y):

(1) Complete Army approved LSS BB Program of Instruction or provide proof of completion of formal LSS BB training from another accepted source

(2) Pass Army LSS BB exam with a minimum score of 70%

(3) Complete one LSS BB Level DMAIC project that is documented in Power Steering

C. Master Black Belt Certification Criteria (ASI 1Z):

(1) Be a certified Army Black Belt.

(2) Lead two Black Belt DMAIC projects (including the one used for BB certification) through a successful Control Tollgate with appropriate documentation in Power Steering

(3) Complete Army approved Master Black Belt Program of Instruction

(4) Pass Army LSS MBB exam with a minimum score of 70%

(5) Coach at least two Army Black Belt DMAIC Projects through a successful Control Tollgate and be identified as project mentor in PowerSteering

(6) Successfully teach all modules of the Army Black Belt course

(7) Co-facilitate a Project Identification Selection Workshop (PISW) with a certified MBB.

4. Grandfathering Option: There may be circumstances when Army personnel have completed Green Belt or Black Belt training from sources other than the US Army's Program of Instruction. Army personnel who completed Green Belt or Black Belt training from a source other than the approved Army curriculum can apply for course completion credit under the grandfathering policy. Candidates requesting course completion credit under the grandfathering policy must meet the same certification guidelines as regular candidates. This includes providing documentation of successful completion of formal training, passing the Army Belt Final Exam, and completing a project as described in paragraphs 4a and 4b above. Grandfathering is not permitted for Master Black Belts.

5. Certification and Documentation Process: Upon completing all requirements for the specified belt level, the deployment director will forward the service member's information to the Deputy Under Secretary of the Army for Business Transformation (DUSA-BT) via email at [login to see] .mil.

Requests will be verified and approved by the DUSA-BT and the Military Deputy, Assistant Secretary of the Army for Acquisition, Logistics and Technology. Copies of the certification documentation (memorandum and certificate) are forwarded to the individual through the originating organization. DUSA-BT will forward request for ASI award to U.S. Army Human Resources Command (AHRC-OPL) for updating commissioned officer and warrant officer records. Enlisted personnel records are updated regularly through a data feed from ATRRS to TAPDB. Only DUSA-BT and U.S. Army HRC are authorized to enter LSS course completion in ATRRS and award the ASI in TAPDB. These actions are not authorized at the installation level and below.

I have completed my Six Sigma Black, Master Black, Green and Yellow belt Certifications through ASQ. Unfortunately the matrix is only accredited for Black and Green Belt so I wasted my money. Go to this website and complete the exam. http://www.sixsigma-institute.org/ Once You complete this go to your S1 and have them input this under "Technical Certification" in eMILPO. The Code for Black Belt is CSSBB. The Code for Green Belt is CSSB. Do NOT use ACO unless you physically attended the residential course which is 4 credit points per 40hrs. I hope this helps:-)

NOTE: You will not get credit for military education if you completed the certification so don't try to give yourself double credit. Audits are happening everyday, don't be that soldier caught with fraudulent points.
