PO1 H Gene Lawrence I wouldn't have even thought of having a family unless I was at least an E-6 back when I was in!

Cpl Vic Burk - I was an E-5. My wife had to work in order for us to make it.

Life insurance is important, just make sure you are getting the right type that will provide for you for a long time. Term insurance in my opinion is not a great option because when the term expires you will be hit with a huge increase to renew it for another term. Whole life remains the same price forever.

I got a $50,000 face whole life when I was twenty-one. I thought that would be enough forever. (I was only making about $8,000/year at the time) Now days that policy face value isn't going to go very far. Yeah, the policy is worth close to $100,000 now but even so, that isn't really enough if something happened today to take care of my wife possibly for fifteen or more years. Get as much as you can afford!
