SSG Private RallyPoint Member 6673068

I am currently a DS 11B E-6 been active for about 8 years and considering a reclass to one of the previously stated MOS if I qualify. Do I need any certs such as Comptia A+, Security+ because I would not mind spending the last 10 years of my career doing the job after drill time. If anyone has any information for a SSG reclass to any one of those MOS that would be great or how I can prep for the test. Thanks. Looking for information on reclassing to 17C, 25D or 25E? 2021-01-19T10:51:17-05:00 SSG Private RallyPoint Member 6673068

I am currently a DS 11B E-6 been active for about 8 years and considering a reclass to one of the previously stated MOS if I qualify. Not sure about the other two. No CompTIA certs required. It’s a very challenging course, there is a math pre-assessment and you have to be strong in math. Lots of trig and algebra. Feel free to message me if you have specific questions. It’s a really cool job, can be very frustrating at times, and a very very small but supportive community. If you were an E4, it would be a long shot, as a SSG it's just not realistic.

Unless you have the certs you need you are not eligible to even apply for 25D.

You may switch to 25E as long as you meet the lines scores and have less than 12 years TIS. You can even work on your certs while in S6 and apply for 25D later if you're quick about it.

Since you are allowed to reclass into 25E regardless of your MOS strengths, you can request it about 6 months to a year out from the end of your tour regardless of when you ETS. However you're an 11B in a very competitive broadening assignment. If you pin SFC (assuming you're not promotable right now) you will not be able to go to the course. If you do reclass, be ready for the promotions to come to an abrupt halt. 25E is not a poorly promoting MOS but it is significantly slower than 11B and you might retire as an E6 or E7. There just simply are not very many E7 positions for 25E, 25D currently have a much better promotion rate if you can make the switch. But both MOS's are small and start at SSG, and 25D has done a good job of filling it's senior ranks so it's possible their promotions will slow down as well. Not much is required for 25e. My friend was an 11b reclassed to 25e now he is a 255n network tech. Anything is possible.
