Aside from the usually partisan (and superficial) comments regarding LTC (R) Vindman, is there a lesson to be learned here? We had a sitting US senator holding up promotion for 1000 senior officers to allow for his promotion. Whistleblowing. Polarizing politics and the politicalization of the military seems to be here for the duration. While the retired could easily just take pot shots from Ft. Living Room, here's my question. How can currently serving members truly remain apolitical? In a world where one callus post can end your career, use some judgment if you elect to weigh in. Was he right? Would you have done the same? Was he dead wrong?

So.......
The LTC was right to report his concern. However, what transpired was a circus that placed the military in the middle of a political firestorm. The LTC should immediately been removed from his position and sent back to the Pentagon for his and the Army’s protection. As a service member, working in that political arena, you have to be cognizant of your actions and how they effect DOD, your service, and you. His supervisor shouldn’t have waited for the White House to make the move. That office should have made the move immediately. Perception is reality and once he lost the perception of being apolitical he was of no use to the Nation in that position. If you are going to fall on your sward and expect to get bloodied. The Senator was wrong to not understand how punishing innocent service members to make a political point and to not understand why the LTC has to be removed. She displayed exactly the opposite of leadership and I for one am glad she is no longer in our formation. Every rotten apple creates more rotten apples. She has terrible leadership, if you can even call it that, qualities. She proved to be a military user, not a defender.

LTC Vindman placed self interest before the interests of the Army. That violates the core values of all Armed Services and should be viewed as such. Whatever the merits, there is a process to adjudicate them and the media circus he created runs counter to that process. He is now hawking a book and seeking to cash in on his unethical actions, this says it all! Senator Duckworth should also remember that no matter how valiant our service or how painful our sacrifice ( I served and lost a family member in Iraq in 2007) we have no special privilege and no right to harm others! Let’s bring the honor back to our service!

MSG Harvey Kane - Amen to that! I have been a registered Republican for more than 50 years and the party my family and I remember has been destroyed by this Cult of Corrupt Personality called Trumpism. Joseph Stalin, Fidel Castro, "Uncle" Walter Ulbrich, etc. are all cheering

Legal, moral, ethical? The socialist infiltration of government has happened and it appears to have affected the hearts and minds of the masses. Appreciate the fact that we can currently converse, i have a feeling that could end soon.

Really, the Lt Col did nothing in his self interest. The President broke the law..It has nothing to do with socialism or dictatorships. He was obligated to tell the truth under his oath to protect the constitution. We swore that oath to the Constitution, not to any one individual.

It has nothing to do with oath to the Constitution rather than the person who is president. Vindman is an LTC hired to a particular job. The President is his boss. The Constitution also says the President makes foreign policy. LTCs are not mentioned in it nor do they set policy. The President can by 100% wrong, but we do it his way because he is the decision maker. This guy set the Army up to ridicule and was used as a political pawn by others trying to belittle one person. No matter which party you are or whether you like this guy or not, it was not within the LTC's job description. He should have been disciplined, but he got away scot free. He'll be well compensated by the other side.

The defense of the Constitution is reason we all swore an oath. Not to protect a President who was violating the laws of this country.

So if your commanding officer or boss was doing something unethical and possibly illegal, you wouldn't report it? That sounds shady to me. What happened after it was reported was political but the act of reporting was justified; you know, having integrity.

You are correct sir. The president is the maker of his foreign policy. Not some one who has nothing but hate-filled lefty rage for President Trump.
Vindman is one that never should have been in the military to start.
If some one can not get past there politics, So it interferes with their duties.
People like Vindman that make up lies like he did. Should have been busted and kicked out.

Our oath is to the Constitution, not an individual. Show me one place in that oath that says we have to cover up for the CinC. This LTC was honoring his oath and this nation. Trump caused his poor treatment.

Please rethink your statement. No one that I have read about was attempting to "overthrow the government." Yes, they were breaking the law, they were made as hell at what appears to be a tainted election, but words like "insurrection" and "overthrow" are emotional laden BS.
Who starts an "insurrection" or "overthrow" without weapons? Who announces their meeting date months in advance so folks from all over the US can travel to DC to protest?
Get a grip on reality, please.
Just a review. The election is over. Biden is in office. But who can recall 4 swing states stopping their vote count during a presidential election? Check on the bell weather counties who haven't missed calling an election in decades.
OK. So we have a tainted election. The Dem is in office. Many folks are mad, feeling cheated. But saying they came to overthrow the government, without weapons but only their voices, leads any thinking person to believe you are over-stating the Washington riot. Why wasn't Portland considered an attempt to overthrow the government? Those people firebombed police stations, Federal courthouses, commandeered city blocks, refused entrance to life-saving rescue vehicles and fired shots on occasion? Those really are indisputable facts.
Be pleased to have a rational discussion with you. But words have meaning and your comment wins the award for miss-use of language.

Another idiot. Where do you people come from? How in the world were you cheated? The American people were cheated, lied to and played for fools for the last four years. Sadly, you are among the misguided. Stop your hate of the MANY people who DO NOT think like you. Who do you think you are?
