I think if you look at TMC Transportation, you will see a high number and even higher if you look at veterans as a percentage of the total number of employees.

Nice compilation Brandon. Glad to see Shell up there, and I am going to challenge our veteran affinity group (MilNet) to shoot out an invitation to join. If even a quarter of the 500+ current MilNet members at Shell did join, that would make a huge impact not just on our perception as military friendly, but increase the ability of those in transition to find old shipmates or just those with a common military background with which to network, gain information.

Seeing Tesla on this list reminded me of another way to show the military tie-in: note the companies that have sponsored DoD Fellows over the last few years. After last friday's MOJO event in DC, I met up with our DoD fellow from this past year, as well as the fellows from 3M, Miscrosoft, and a few others.

I would challenge any of the military recruiters that read this, or leadership of a company's veteran affinity group that rea this, to get the word out across your group about RallyPoint.

Capt Brandon Charters Great post! I'm currently an employee of one of those companies on the list you provided, and have enjoyed a really great civilian career.

I would also add L3Com to the list as well, if I remember right, they're one of the biggest, if not the biggest, defense contractor(s) in the country.

I think the important thing to highlight here is that everybody talks about networking in the civilian world when you go to transition, chances are at least "fair" that you may already know at least somebody working for one of those companies on the list.

Also, quite a few positions on the defense side require security clearances for specific jobs. As a military member most if not all have at least a Secret clearance. That saves the hiring company money when they go to hire into those positions because all they have to do is petition to have the security clearance transferred from the DOD to their program as a contractor for maintenance and monitoring, they (the company) don't have to pay to do the extensive background check etc. The higher your clearance for those types of jobs, the smaller the pool of your competition, and most likely the higher your initial salary...

While on the subject of clearances, for those still in, and who plan on staying in for a while, I suggest "playing the long game." What I mean by that, is look into and apply for special duty assignments within your MOS/AFSC while serving that require you to get a T/S with SSBI or an SCI. Or shoot for the moon, and see if you can't get yourself into a position while serving, where you can get a Yankee White. Big $$ on the outside.

In any event, to those transitioning, even if you don't know any former vets in positions in those companies, somebody you do know, that could probably speak to your reputation, may know someone there. There's at least the beginning of a networking opportunity, and at least one monetary advantage you probably have already...
