Making Connections to Spam Fellow Servicemembers. DON'T DO IT.

I recently received a connection request from a fellow servicemember. I'm always interested in becoming buddies with my military brothers and sisters, and networking is a good thing for most of us. Anyway, not two seconds later, I had a private message from this person spamming me with a book that he is selling.

Please... don't do that.

It just feels weird, and invalidates the connection request.

If you have something to sell, write a story about it - talk it up. Discuss it and share a link at the end of your story.

Not sure if anyone else has connected with a RallyPoint person, only to receive a message asking to buy a book or something.

It's uncool. Please, don't do it. Stop.

Maybe we need to create a post just for listing those members that do this and everyone can add a name. That way we can check that post if we want before accepting someone. Also it might deter this behavior. Just a thought...

Multi-level marketing (MLM) which bears some similarity to pyramid schemes, but is a legal and occasionally successful model of business is highly corrosive to most friendships. It makes your existing friends feel awkward when you approach them and people you meet new think you're only interested in selling.

I've experienced some of that here and some of that in real life.
