My new friends all - to a person - have prior military service. Many are retired military, like me, so we relate very well to one other. It lets them continue with their civilian lives but still give them that comrade with other Soldiers. Just because we do not have a shared background coming from the military. I worked at a place for a couple of years where I was actually very comfortable and enjoyed the people. Mainly because most of them where ex-military and could relate. So I socialized with them inside and outside of work.
