Many argue that homosexuality is a mental illness resulting from sexual and other trauma. How much should this affect how we view LGBT?

Homosexuality isn't necessarily mental illness. It is sexual sin just like adulterous behavior. Homosexuality can be a besetting sin, one that's very hard to turn away from. Transgenderism may be a form of mental illness because it leads to physical mutilation. Bisexuality is yet another sexual sin.

The good news is God forgives our sins if we ask and repent. He will forgive us for all types of sins no matter how often or how large we commit them. The entire LGBTQ is a group of behavioral choices. With God's grace, Christ's mercy and the guidance of the Holy Spirit those afflicted with these besetting sins can be forgiven and redeemed.

Society has always had a % of homosexual activity. I was not aware it was labeled a mental illness. I was aware it is listed as perverted, or reprobate. What a man does in his tent is not my business. But, when someone tries to tell me some actions are normal that are not, it becomes my business.
In the New Age, whatever you feel is right is right. Crazy stuff and not true.
The next thing you know, some Imam will tell us it is OK to beat your wife and some New Ager will say write; "Well, if it feels good, do it."

Not many, a few perhaps.. not sure, doubt anyone is listening to them, nor giving them visibility by repeating their rants.

To the few that are saying "homosexuality is a mental illness " It would not surprise me if mental illness is an issue, but not how the speaker intends it to mean.

I honestly do not think it is a mental illness or based on how you were raised. I think we can discount both. Given we have evidence of people saying they are homosexual, engaging in homosexual acts, then later insisting they are straight and getting married. Look at the drummer of the 1980's group Culture Club (John Voss).........exhibit A. Ask him today he insists he is straight, not bisexual or gay. Ask him what happened in the 1980's and he says it was just a youthful fling. We also have people today that are married that are Homosexual and their wives let them run around as such as long as it is not with another woman. To me both indicate it is a life choice and thats it. Now the Homosexual lobby will insist those people like John Voss are really Bi-Sexuals in denial but who are you going to believe? A group with an agenda or John Voss who really does not care at this point. So life choice in my view. Not genetic, not mental, and not how you were raised.

Why should we view them any differently than anyone else? Everyone does things that others don't agree with. As long as they aren't harming others, who cares what they do? If that is how they choose to live then I say live and let live.

I'm going to be honest, this is the first time I've heard the idea that homosexuality is a mental illness caused by sexual or other trauma. I've heard it be referred to as being a mental illness, but that specific cause is a new one to me.

To answer your direct question, if this was the case, I don't think this should affect how we view LGBT because it would force us to look upon them all as victims instead of individuals.

Honestly, I don't know why there would be anything "mental" about homosexuality. Most attraction is physical based on biological needs. I don't see why the same can't be true for homosexuality as well. If a heterosexual relationship's sole purpose is to pass on genetic material to further the evolutionary process, then it stands to reason that the sole purpose of a homosexual relationship is nature's way of stopping a genetic line from being passed on for whatever reason why.

I don't think they are confused or traumatized in any way. I just think it's one form of natural selection.

I could give a rats ass about their sexual preference as long as they perform their duties and wear the uniform in accordance with military protocol as well as maintain respect for those who are heterosexual. The sword cuts both ways. However, I might have a bit of a problem with someone who is transgender. Something about a man or woman dressing as the opposite sex and/or having what I perceive to be gender mutilation is a bit unsettling to me. You asked; I told.

I have friends that I grew up with. The "rich" kids with two loving parents and no history of abuse of any kind. Thier "gayness" was not the result of any kind of trauma whatsoever. I can't agree with that argument, knowing the people I know and how they lived.

To the best of my knowledge, therapists will tell you that all of us are either currently, have in the past, or will in the future; suffer from mental illness. (Maybe they are just trying to keep job security). That said, no two people are the same. So my suggestion is that we just treat each other well, with as much civility, and respect as possible.
