Two years ago, Army Gen. Martin E. Dempsey, the nation’s top military officer, laid down an edict on the Obama administration’s plan to open direct land combat jobs to women: If women cannot meet a standard, senior commanders better have a good reason why it should not be lowered.

SPC Elijah J. Henry, MBA as I know I wouldn't make the standards either, I won't talk that loud here. I know there is going to be a lot of Soldiers, Marines, Sailors, etc. going against it but, I would like to see those that would meet the standards commenting here.

No surprise here.

Social engineering gone awry again. Why worry about standards? Equality (as long as it is in areas they want to be equal in) is all that counts.

This was bound to happen... Just like the Army will change the standards for females to complete Ranger School.

I am all for women being able to have the same opportunities as men, as long as the standards are not lowered for females or lowered for all so females can meet them. Stick to the standards and let the chips fall where they may.

There is no room for equality in certain things in the military. Physical and mental readiness is priority. People lose touch with the reality of war and what we are trained to do. When men have tried and failed in SF, jump school, sniper school and many others, the standards were not dropped for them. I am a firm believer in specific MOS pt and physical training standards for all combat arms units. If you can not perform your job, you are bringing the morale and readiness of your unit down to include endangering your fellow service members.
I have nothing against women doing combat arms now. I just don't want to see the standards drop for anyone, male or female.

I honestly don't think the Marines will lower standards for females. If theres one branch that has kept standards its the corps.

Those of the PC crowd need to blow it out their A$$. The standards are there for a reason and so be it. One thing the PC 'ers need to understand THERE IS A DIFFERENCE BETWEEN WOMEN AND MEN. No matter if they want to accept it or not.

The battle field and enemy don't give a hoot about standards, just so long as you're dead or out of the game.

Disingenuous Headline. Article doesn't say anything close to it.

What it says is that Congress may question whether the standards are actually appropriate, and the USMC will have to defend them. That's how the system works.

Actually, that should apply to anyone, regardless of sex, race, creed, political affiliation, religion, or any other grouping you want to throw in there.

Given the current political climate and the "weeding out" of opinionated generals in all branches by the Obama Administration, I would not be too surprised to see the standards changed. Probably use "gender-norming" for the PT requirements and just impose it straight from the DOD. The Marine Corps has excelled in it's job for 2.5 centuries, but it is an institution that celebrates uniformity rather than diversity, excellence rather than victimology, and success rather than self-esteem. For those reasons, it must be cracke open and scrambled like an egg on the griddle of political correctness.

Separate the men and woman 100% and put the standerds back where they were 30 years ago along with the stress. If the woman need it to be different then so be it.they need to learn there limitations so they can over come them there way with out us men doing it for them.it will put a stop to sexual harassment as well.

According to the New Agers, all that is needed is for them to train for it. Never mind thicker bone and muscle tissue may be required. The Marine Corp. What a bunch of meanies having high standards. They and men's MMA need to lower standards. So, feelings are not harmed.
