That's when Fahy said the Marine grabbed an officer's gun and fired it one time in the hospital waiting room.

The Marine was quickly restrained and later admitted to the Naval Hospital where he remains under supervised care. Fahy added there were no injuries and no indication the act was premeditated or criminal.

Fahy said in order to protect the privacy of the Marine, no other information will be released regarding his hospitalization. No charges have been filed at this time.

Because a base law enforcement officer's weapon was involved, NCIS will be handling an independent investigation.

http://m.wcti12.com/news/shooting-reported-at-naval-hospital-camp-lejeune/34804830

Marine fires gun at Naval Hospital Camp Lejeune

Marine Corps officials confirmed a Marine fired a gun at Naval Hospital Camp Lejeune.

"Marine fires gun at Naval Hospital Camp Lejeune" 2015-08-20T10:46:29-04:00 RallyPoint Shared Content 904730

From: WCTI

CAMP LEJEUNE, Onslow County - Marine Corps officials confirmed a Marine fired a gun at Naval Hospital Camp Lejeune.

Camp Lejeune Public Affairs Director Nat Fahy said it happened at approximately 6:30 p.m. Sunday, August 16.

Fahy said the Marine was being taken to the hospital while in the custody of Marine Corps Civilian Law Enforcement. It sounds like the service member was mentally ill to begin with. This is about as relevant as a "desk pop".. Glad no one was injured. Hopefully he gets the help he needs first so he, at least, is aware and understands what he did. Thankfully, no one was injured or killed... It would be nice if mental hospitals were in existence now, like they used to be, but properly operated and staffed. It won't completely alleviate issues like this, but at least there would be no weapons (guns) available as they were not allowed on/inside the premises, at least that's what I've been told.
